South Pole Open Mic
Last night was the last open mic of the Summer… Holy shit there are so many talented people here!! Seriously, it was one of those nights that’s like… Who needs/misses culture back home?! We have all the musicians/storytellers we need right here at the South Pole!! It was beyond a doubt, the best show to be at in Antartica last night.
Trudy transformed the Gym into a rad little venue and $2 margaritas were keeping everyone loose. I was asked to emcee, and for the first time since I’ve been at the South Pole I felt the energy to perform and even tell some new stand-up jokes. It was so much fun to perform again/get nasty on the mic and to hear laughs… South Pole laughs!! The performance of the night had to go to this one beaker Chris who works on the South Pole Telescope… he was so unsuspecting. He got on the violin and just totally crushed it and got what was probably the most uproarious applause I’ve ever heard. The night was headlined by South Pole’s newest band, Cheap Perfume by Dave Benson, and it turned into a wild dance party. What Saturday night at the South Pole doesn’t end in a dance party?
So yeah, just an awesome night and then you go outside at 2am and feel the Sunlight radiating off the actual South Pole and you walk home thinking about how really incredible this place is at the bottom of the world.
South Pole, who knew?! ahaha…
following him because his shit is FASCINATING.
